We often spend the majority of our time doing indoor repairs, either fixing things that need fixing or trying to improve the value of our homes. We can get so focussed on the interior that curb appeal falls through the cracks. But simple fixes to the exterior could easily net us greater value for the money spent.
We’ve compiled a simple list of 6 items that will make a big difference to your curb appeal.
1. Power Wash Your Exterior
Sometimes just a little power washing goes a long way–getting rid of the dust and dirt that can accumulate on siding and windows. You can follow through with a quick power clean of your driveway, walkways and deck to make your home look amazing at very little cost.
2. Paint Trim/Doors
Sometimes just a little sprucing up with some trim paint and a refresh paint on the exterior doors can add life and colour to make your entrance more welcoming. Make sure to take care to scrape off any peeling paint and give it a bit of sanding before applying any new paint.
3. Repair Screen Doors/Windows
If you have any screens that are broken, bulging or just tired looking, now is the time to make some minor repairs. Screens are easy to fix and can be done in no time and make such a difference to your outdoor appearance.
4. Have your Chimney/Fireplace Cleaned
Especially if you have a rural home or you use a fireplace or woodstove. You’ll want to have an expert take a look to make sure there are no issues with your chimney. If you have a gas fireplace, you’ll also want to have this serviced along with your furnace before you sell.
5. Clean Oil/Grease Stains from the Driveway
This may not seem like an item that you think is necessary. But it can turn buyers away when they see cracks with grass growing in the driveway or oil and grease stains. Often this can be the difference between getting an offer or not. Take the time to do some simple repairs to make your driveway look more pleasing to the eye.
6. Fix or Paint Your Fence
If you fence is leaning or needs painting, take a bit of time to make this fix. Often you don’t need to repair your whole fence. Just give it a little TLC. If your fence needs a bit of paint, you should bite the bullet and paint. An unkept fence can take away from an otherwise beautiful yard.
