Year in review:
The end of the year is fast approaching and we have a lot to be thankful for this year. According to the Ottawa Real Estate Board (OREB), we have seen a 10.9% increase in average prices on residential homes and condos rose to 12.2% on average over (Nov. 2018-2019) due to the seller’s market that we have seen.
A reduction in the 5-year mortgage rates and the federal government’s First-Time Home Buyer’s Incentive have caused a flurry of activity in home sales. The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) also forecasts a 7% increase in home sales for Ontario and Quebec in 2020.
Showing your home during the holidays:
Well it’s that time of year when thoughts are on holiday food, gifts and family gatherings. Although it can be challenging to sell your home during this time, you want to keep in mind that your house can be staged to sell and also decorated for the holiday season. Sometimes it is hard to balance between selling your home and keeping up with the holiday rush. Don’t worry! Sit back with a glass of wine or a gingerbread latte and plan how you will ease into the season.
Decorate with flair, but tastefully…
We all like to celebrate during the holiday season but try to keep an eye on your décor with selling in mind. Inflatable large Santa’s and Frosty can be cute but will definitely overpower and will take away from the beauty of your home. Keep the indoor and outdoor lights to a minimum. Even though you are selling during the holidays, the buyers that do come through will normally be more motivated during this time. Sometimes buyers are transferred in the New Year or need a specific date to move.
January and February are on the horizon and this is often one of the best times to buy a home. Buyers are looking to move in the Spring and like to start looking during these months. You may get a better price for your house as there are fewer homes for buyers to choose during this season. Make sure you have good summer pictures of what your backyard and gardens look like to highlight your home.
