As you are putting the final touches on the inside of your home, don’t forget the importance of your outside curb appeal. You want to make the first impression of your house so memorable that your phone will be ringing off the hook with future showings. Buyers look at the exterior of your home before they venture in.
Since more people are at home these days, it is time to dust off that “honey-do list” and start with some projects. Depending on the time you have, you can accomplish some on in a day, weekend, or longer. Here are some ideas that our Anne Winch Real Estate Team has put together for you:
Not much time (a day):
- Paint your front door – add a little colour to your entrance and don’t forget the trim
- Add a wreath – just a lovely addition to accent the entrance to your home
- Change mailbox with a bit of pizzazz – try pewter, bronze or gold tones to match your exterior
- Add a welcome mat that is in good taste and begs for buyers to see more
More time (few days):
- Upgrade or add a coat of paint to your shutters, especially if you have changed the paint on your front door
- Add more plants to your flower gardens including mulch
- Add some pavers or stepping stones from your back door
- Power wash the deck or siding of your home
Lots of time (week or more):
- Build/or fix your deck
- Paint your fence
- Build a shed
- Reseal your driveway and fill in any unsightly cracks
First impressions are very important. If you have a weathered front door or untidy gardens – that is your buyer’s first impression. Buyers look online mostly for homes for sale, but others can simply drive by to see what is for sale in a specific neighbourhood. You only have a few seconds to make a memorable impression. That is why it is important to get at some of those tasks that may have been forgotten over time but need to be done.
The curbside appeal can add between 3-5% to the price of your home (long as the exterior of your home is in good condition).
