Each Spring, new designs for our homes come into play. If you are doing some renovations or thinking you just need to get your place looking a little more modern, you are not alone. It is always a good idea to update the look of your home.

We would love to share with you some new ideas and some tips and tricks to help you along.

Let’s talk kitchens

If you are doing some minor renovations or a new kitchen remodel, there are many things to think about. What colour cupboards, counters and flooring do you need? What goes with what? Is an all-white kitchen too boring? Let’s take you through a few scenarios!

Stainless steel appliances are undoubtedly the most popular finish for kitchen appliances with white squeaking into second place. It is much easier to decorate with stainless steel but if you want to go with white appliances here are some ideas to make your kitchen pop and not become boring.

  • You don’t want white appliances to be the feature of your kitchen
  • Focus on your cabinets, countertop and backsplash or paint colour
  • Don’t pair white appliances with warm white, off-white, or cream cabinets. The cool white of appliances can make your cabinets look dingy or grey with those colours.
  • White cabinets with white appliances will blend in but make sure your countertops are darker and use a striking backsplash to add a little bit of drama, so it won’t be boring. You can always use white upper cabinets and dark lower cabinets.

Colour of the year

During the past couple of years, we have noticed more people are bringing greenery into their homes. Budding green thumbs are including exotic plants in their décor. This year paint colours are mimicking the outdoors in greens, blues, and browns. Natural textures of wood, bamboo and cork are also playing a part in giving your home a facelift. Neutrals are always in, but you may find more whites have undertones of the greens, blues, and browns.

Bring back the accessories

  • If a new couch is in your future, you will find that many new items have curved lines.
  • Opt for accessories such as mirrors, vases, or artwork with clean curved lines.
  • Mix metals – chromes and pewters; gold and brass are out.

Accent walls

Accent walls or feature walls are not new. However, this year’s trend seems to be exposed brickwork in the home. If you have a brick wall you want to feature, especially if it is red, you might want to opt for walls in the white range to make the brick pop.
