It doesn’t matter whether you are buying or selling, your first vision of a home leaves a lasting impression. It is so important besides decluttering and cleaning to have a clear pathway from your door to the rooms in your home. Decorating mistakes are easy to make and if there is too much or too little furniture it doesn’t make your home as beautiful as it can be.
Here are some ideas on what you can do if you are planning to sell your home this year.
Have a clear conversation
Don’t have your furniture too far apart, it is harder to converse, and you can feel left out of the conversation. This does not give a good vibe when you are entertaining nor is it pleasing to the eye. Keep in mind that furniture should somewhat face each other to make the conversation flow easily. If you have a very large room, you can create conversation areas in more than one space.
Don’t jam your furniture against walls
Gone are the days when couches and side tables need to be jammed against the walls. Believe it or not, furniture against the wall does not make your room look bigger. It may make your room look overwhelming and not larger. Easing your furniture away from the walls gives your room a better sense of balance, coziness and makes conversation easier. Don’t be afraid to do this even in a small room!
Focal point
Every room should have a focal point. Sometimes it is created naturally but sometimes we must create it ourselves. A focal point can anchor the space you have, and you can then arrange furniture around it. Not sure what your focal point is in your home? Think about a picturesque window or fireplace or mantel. It is usually viewed as soon as you walk into a room. If you don’t have a major focal area, you can have a beautiful mirror above your couch or an accent or gallery wall that can create this energy in your room.
Traffic flow
Nothing is more important than navigating through rooms when you are selling your home. If your buyers must walk around furniture constantly, climbing or tripping, they will not remember the beauty of your home. Decluttering is with furniture too! Less is more. People don’t want to walk in a zigzag pattern to see your home.
Natural Light
Let’s face it, buyers want a home that has lots of natural light. Blocking windows with furniture or heavy blinds is just going to make your home look too dark. It will make your house look smaller and cluttered too. If you really need to have furniture in front of a large window, use mirrors on the wall to reflect the natural light. A smart lighting plan can also create the light you need, too.
These are just some tips and tricks on how you can arrange your furniture in your home to make it more marketable to buyers.
