The weather is getting hot, and everyone is looking forward to spending more time outside. Nothing is more inviting than having your backyard as your “special oasis”. To style your patio for the summer you must balance between aesthetics and functionality. Here are some of our best ideas for your backyard paradise.
The furniture
Sometimes when we are entertaining outside, we can spend hours and hours with friends and family. Furnishings should be comfortable and with a beautiful design. Consider your outdoors and how you wish to use it. Select furniture that will correspond to your space to allow for ample seating. If your patio is smaller, you will need to pick furniture that doesn’t overpower your space and that can easily be moved around.
A splash of colour
Nothing can add some pizzazz to your outdoor area than a splash of colour. Depending on your style, pick cushions that create some colour. There are so many different cushions and pillows to choose from like palm fronds and greenery, bright yellow lemons, or floral patterns. Pops of colour just make your backyard so inviting. Add a beautiful outdoor rug and some potted plants to surround your area.
Set the mood
If you will be entertaining in the evening hours, it is so romantic to have lighting. You can pick from string lights, lanterns, or pathway lights. All of these can give a different vibe. If you are looking for a more classic look, add light sconces to the exterior of your home.
Keep it cool!
If your patio or deck is in the sun most of the day, you might want to add some shade to get a respite from the sun. You can add a pergola, a large umbrella or even go for a sail shade. You don’t want your guests melting in the sun nor do you want your furniture to fade.
Here are some other ideas to create a beautiful look to the outdoors:
- Clean and seal your paving stones.
- Add audio and video.
- Put in a fire pit to an existing patio or you may wish to have it as a separate entity.
- Add a water feature.
If you are looking to sell your home in the summertime, your outdoors can be a powerful tool to sell your home. If you have a deck, make sure it is restored or refreshed. Having a patio creates an extension to your home that adds more value.
Remember that when you are selling your home, the outside must also be visually pleasing. If the outside looks well-kept, buyers want to look inside to see more. You want buyers to feel so passionate about your home that they will love it and want to live there.
Curbside appeal can add between 3-5% to the price of your home (as long as the exterior of your home is in good condition).
