Fall is a great time to do some outdoor projects before the days turn colder. We have had a beautiful fall this year and now is the time to do those projects we have put off all summer. Our Anne Winch Real Estate Team has put together a checklist of items you might want to fix before the winter sets in.
Replenish winter supplies
- Now is the time to check for your windshield scrapers and snow shovels to see if you need to replace them.
- Get a supply of ice melt – whether it is salt or a special pet-safe variety.
- Do you have an emergency kit for your car?
- Check your snowblower. Have it serviced if need be and get some fuel to be ready for any inclement weather.
Store hoses and close off outdoor faucets
- Time to put away any garden implements, store hoses and shut off outdoor faucets.
- Store away garden furniture and clear leaves away from decks and lawns.
Check safety devices
- Do you have a fire extinguisher? It is always handy to have one that is especially useful in the kitchen or if you have a fireplace.
- Test any smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors and change the batteries.
Get ready for the heat!
- Now is the time to vacuum floor grates, have your furnace serviced and have your ducts cleaned.
Care for trees and shrubs
- It can be handy to contact an arborist to check any large trees or shrubs on your property. They can check the health of your trees and prune to avoid falling limbs during the winter or an ice storm.
Budget for extra maintenance
- Take a walk around your property looking for damage to the foundation or the roof. If you find any repairs that need to be done, schedule them now before the winter sets in.
One of the main reasons to maintain your home is to keep your family safe. A well-maintained home is less likely to have mould, pests or structural damage. A well-maintained home is a happy home. Make sure you are doing the necessary upkeep and repairs.
If you are thinking of selling your home soon, buyers will notice a home that is well-maintained. Buyer turnoffs are badly maintained homes, dark interiors, clutter, unpleasant odours and damage and defects.
Prospective buyers will notice any disrepair, and this could negatively impact your home’s value and the sale of your home. If you are not sure what repairs need to be done before your home is listed, contact our Anne Winch Real Estate Team for our professional advice to make sure your home is competitive in today’s market.
