If your home is up for sale you may think your biggest task may have been when you decluttered, but you need to keep it clean at all times to be ready for any potential buyers. It is hard to do that with children and pets but doing a little bit each day goes a long way.

Here are some ideas to keep on top of things:

  1. Clean a little every day

Clean counters in the kitchen and a wipe down in the bathroom along with a quick sweep or mop of the floors on a daily basis. Kitchens and bathrooms tend to get dirty quickly so a little cleaning goes a long way. Especially if you have pets, make sure you give a quick vacuum to collect any pet hair.

  1. Keep on top of the laundry

There is nothing worse than walking into a laundry room with dirty clothes or hampers of clothing lying around. Doing laundry every day or second day will make it easier to keep things in hand and tidy.

  1. Your secret weapon

Get some storage containers to put toys or quick pick up items in for easy storage. Anything that needs storing can be done quickly in a plastic bin. Need a place to put them? Store them in the trunk of your car until the showing is over. These bins will be your best friend, believe me!

  1. Garbage stinks!

Make sure your clean house doesn’t permeate with the smell of garbage from the garage especially during the summer. Stow any garbage in a bin outside so that the smell is not trickling inside the house.

  1. Don’t forget the outside

Make sure your entranceway and driveway is free of debris and is inviting to potential buyers. Keep the gardens weed-free and make sure the grass is cut. A lot of buyers check out the house first before they make an appointment for a showing.

  1. Relax!

Yes that’s right –relax! If you are having an open house on Sunday and you can get away for the weekend, check in to a B&B or hotel the night before your open house so everything is clean and tidy and you don’t have to do the mad dash clean up before your open house.
