Does your home need an update, but you can’t afford a total remodel? Many of us dream of a new kitchen or bathroom but it can be costly. Our Anne Winch Real Estate Team has some ideas on how you can make some updates without a complete remodel.

Paint

Hands down paint can make such a difference in a home! It can be one of the least expensive ways to change a large portion of your home. Walls are the way to go when painting but there are so many other places where paint can make a difference. (Tip: Get colour paint chits or small paint samples to try the paint in your home before committing.)

You can also paint the following:

  • Kitchen cabinets
  • Bath vanity, hardware
  • Doors
  • Baseboards and trim
  • Floors, tile, and countertops (special paint needed for this!)
  • Fireplaces

Replace light fixtures

Light fixtures can date your home and is easy to do and makes an impact on your home. Replace entry lights, chandeliers, and bathroom vanity fixtures.

Update your doors

If you have flat front doors throughout your home, you can replace these with panelled white doors that will give your home a clean and bright look.

Change your baseboards

If you have baseboards that blend in with your wood floors, you might want to change things up a bit. Add taller white baseboards and replace the trim around your doors. You could also add a little bit or trim a couple of inches above your baseboards and paint the in-between portion white to match the baseboard to give a faux taller baseboard look for less cost.

Replace light switches and thermostat

If you have those old ivory switch plates on your walls, it is time to update them. These old switch plates can look old and dingy. Try switching to white and it is so simple to do and makes such a difference. Outdated technology could be costing you money. Think about getting your thermostat switched to a newer, digital one.

These are just some ways you can update your home. If you think your home is a little dated, try some of these changes. It can make such a difference when you go to sell your home!
