Let’s face it, we all have some areas of our home we try to hide when we are selling. I have yet to see the absolute perfect home! Below are a few scenarios where room flaws can be easily remedied through working with our Ottawa staging team.

  1. Your Window Showcases Your Neighbour’s Brick Wall

This can be a real dilemma when you are trying to showcase your home and your neighbour is so close you could pass the salt to them. So what do you do? The first thing would be to install a beautiful blind that allows light but hides your neighbour’s home. There are many shades of blinds to pick from but a crisp white or neutral colour will go with any décor. Add some beautiful drapes to frame the outside of the window. People will be drawn to the window but with positive results.

  1. Dated Fireplaces

The floor to ceiling brick fireplaces had their place years ago but for many buyers this just looks old and dated. If it is in your budget you can have your fireplace remodeled with modern tile and a mantle. But if this is not an option, you can have your fireplace brick painted to make it look less overbearing. Neutral tones work the best and by adding a beautiful mantle this would cut down costs than total replacement. If you are not handy…check with an Ottawa staging professional.

  1. No Room For a Kitchen Table

If your home has a smaller kitchen, you definitely want to make it appear more open. Adding a kitchen table and chairs in a smaller kitchen just makes it appear even smaller and harder to negotiate around. Leave the kitchen table and chairs out and make a beautiful breakfast bar by adding a couple of stylish chairs to your counter. If you want to take it up a notch, you can add onto your countertop with a beautiful wooden extension look that adds beauty and width to your counter. If you are planning on replacing your countertop then you can add an overhang to your counter to accommodate a few chairs for your breakfast bar.

  1. Hiding a Popcorn Ceiling

Popcorn or stippled ceilings are clearly out of the 50s and often a room flaw. Depending on your budget, here are some ideas. You can scrape the ceiling and re-plaster. This is often a very messy job and time consuming to boot. Another option would be to add drywall to the ceiling and just have a plain painted ceiling instead. This might be the best option but it is best to have a professional tackle this one who is proficient in taping and mudding.
