Many buyers are looking for open concept living and dining areas. Many like the idea of white cabinetry, granite counters, double kitchen sink and a central island. Stainless steel appliances are still a winner! Many families want to be able to have space to cook and gather with family without being impeded by walls. Breakfast bars to eat and run and large windows to bring in light are top priorities this year.
Laundry room:
Gone are the days you gathered your laundry and headed to the basement. Many buyers want to have a self-enclosed area to do their laundry. Laundry rooms that have enough room for the washer and dryer and space to organize detergents and linens. Main floor or a laundry room near the bedrooms is a must on a lot of buyers’ list.
Storage:
Walk-in pantries and large 2-car garages for storage are some of the requests that are seen this year. Buyers want to have a minimalist look in their homes and this can only be done with plentiful cupboards and storage areas. Master bedrooms with walk-in closets are also a bonus.
Smart home:
Buyers are more committed to the environment and smart technology. Energy efficient appliances and windows, programmable thermostats and wireless security systems round out some features of the smart home.
Patio:
This year more and more people want to extend their living space to outside. So, it is important not to forget to stage your outdoor area when you are selling your home. Whether you have a concrete patio or deck, most buyers imagine themselves in a lovely backyard where they can entertain or spend time with their family. A whopping 87% of people are looking more to the exterior as an extension of the home.
Bathrooms:
Bathrooms can always make a statement! Wallpaper is back and used as a feature wall complete with a high-end mirror can escalate and enlarge a small powder room. Showers include exposed plumbing of pewter or black and seamless glass doors to add a spa-like appearance. A new trend this year is to have your vanity in front of a window in the bathroom. This brings in lots of light and a simple, small mirror on a pedestal can be set in the middle of the vanity behind the taps.
