Buying or selling your home can be exciting and a big decision all wrapped up together! If you have been looking online and have made the move to invest in getting a real estate team to help you with some serious buying or selling, there are a few things you should discuss. Our Anne Winch Ottawa Real Estate and Staging Team has put together some questions that you should ask your real estate team.

  • Understanding the real estate market

You need to get a handle on the market conditions to understand the present real estate market. Is it a seller’s market or a buyer’s market? These factors will give you a better understanding of how much you need to spend to get what you want. Make sure that you have taken the time to get pre-approved by a lender so your real estate team can give you more informed choices on homes within your budget.

  • How can our team help?

Every real estate team has different services they provide. There is a lot of time and effort on both parties to get the right home and negotiate the price, inspections, financing and get the deal signed, sealed and delivered. Our Team can also help you with the demographics of schools, sports facilities or a neighbourhood that will suit your needs.

  • The buyer representative agreement

When you decide on a real estate team you are asked to sign an agreement to formalize your working relationship. It also specifies that you will be working entirely with one real estate brokerage for the duration of the contract. Now is the time to ask any questions about the agreement before you sign. It is always important to have your buyer agent walk through the forms so you understand what it entails.

  • How do you keep me informed?

This is an important question to ask your agent. If your preference is texting or email you should make sure that your agent is on the same page. If your agent is not into electronic communication and prefers a game of telephone tag this relationship may not work for you as the market today is fast-paced.

  • Do you have a website?

This is an important question as it gives you information on: how your real estate team markets properties, information on the team, listings and their management style. Most real estate team websites also include reviews from past clients. Google Reviews is a great place to start.
