Your doorway is the entrance to your home. Both your entrance and foyer are very important. Walking up the path to your door is the first view of your home. Your foyer gives you an idea of what to expect inside your home. A foyer doesn’t need to be large to have an impact. The right furniture, choice of paint colour and wall décor can transform any size space. Sometimes the foyer and mudroom have been combined in some home designs.

Your front entrance

There are a few things you can do to update the look of your entrance and curb appeal to your home.

  • Switch out your front door and make sure that your new door has glass panels for a beautiful visual look and to allow more light indoors.
  • Change the house numbers to your home. Make sure they are at least 4 inches tall so that they are visible from the street.
  • Don’t forget the walkway. If you can power wash the path, it cleans up a lot of debris and dirt. Add a welcome mat that gives your entrance a more polished look.
  • Make sure that you don’t forget landscaping around your home. Cut back any plants that block your entrance or front windows. Planters are easier to maintain beside the door.
  • Add stylish lighting at the entrance of your home.

The foyer

Many people forget about the foyer when selling their homes. It is the first impression, and it also sets the tone of what is inside your home. It offers a glimpse of other rooms. Furniture and décor in the foyer are very important. You want to be stylish without having clutter.

  • Make sure your foyer has the right lighting, décor, and space. It may become more functional especially if you don’t have a mudroom. There is a lot of movement with people coming and going through this space.
  • Cabinetry or cupboards can play an important role. Add colour and texture to make the space inviting.
  • A simple bench gives you a place to sit to remove shoes.
  • A mirror above a console table can make the foyer lighter and brighter.
  • The tile in your foyer can be very impactful. Tile can have texture and add patterns and colour. Add a beautiful rug to minimize any mess, especially during the winter and spring.

Just as the inside of your house needs staging to create the right atmosphere to attract buyers, so does staging the outside. Do you know what colours would complement the exterior finish of your home whether it is vinyl, brick, or stone? Is your home situated in a country setting in or are you in a modern townhouse?
